Role Overview

As a Chief Remote Pilot, the primary responsibility is to lead and support operational teams, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and innovation. This role is critical to maintaining operational excellence, guiding remote pilots (RPs), and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and company standards. The Chief Remote Pilot will also play a key role in implementing training initiatives and supporting continuous improvement across the operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Compliance: Ensure all operations are conducted in full compliance with CAA regulations, including maintaining up-to-date operational documentation, flight data, and RPAS information on the company's platform.
  • Risk Management: Apply risk management principles to all work activities, ensuring compliance with the principle of ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) in every aspect of operations.
  • Training & Development: Oversee the training, qualification, and development of Remote Pilots (RPs), ensuring compliance with company standards, CAA regulations, and operational best practices.
  • Flight & Safety Oversight: Conduct and supervise pilot conversions, training, and practical assessments, including flight proficiency checks (LPC) and sign-off of pilot training records.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare safe work method statements, job risk assessments, and procedural instructions for new operations. Review and revise the company's Operations Manual in collaboration with the Operations Manager and Accountable Manager.
  • Liaison & Coordination: Work closely with maintenance contractors, operations teams, and other departments to ensure all operational activities align with safety standards, training, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ongoing Compliance & Records Management: Maintain RP qualifications, training records, and medical status. Ensure all UAS records are up to date, and monitor RP personal logbooks for currency.
Qualifications
  • UK Remote Pilot Licence (A2CoFC / GVC).
  • ASME Plant Inspector 1 (desirable).
  • BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training).
  • MIST (Minimum Industry Safety Training).
  • OGUK Offshore Medical.
Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • At least 5 years' UAV experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • At least 3 years' experience in Visual Inspection (desirable).
  • 2+ years' experience in Surveying/Photogrammetry (desirable).
  • 2+ years' experience in Renewable Energy (desirable).
  • Proficiency in computer-based technology and commercially available reporting software.
  • A good understanding of Client/HSE requirements for NDT inspection, risk assessments, COSHH, and procedures.
