Secondary Teaching Assistant - Abergavenny

Are you a teaching assistant ready for your next challenge in education? We have an exciting opportunity available for a Secondary Teaching Assistant to work within a fantastic secondary school in the Abergavenny area.

We’re seeking an individual with experience, confidence, and a proactive attitude to thrive in a classroom environment. You’ll be responsible for supporting secondary-aged pupils, and at times, stepping in to cover classes in the absence of the teacher.

Welsh language skills are preferred, but not essential for this role.

Duties will include:

  • Working 1:1 and with small groups of pupils
  • Supporting pupils with a variety of learning needs
  • Covering classes when the teacher is absent
  • Maintaining classroom discipline in line with the school's policy
  • Building strong relationships with pupils
  • Helping pupils engage with the national curriculum
  • Promoting the school’s ethos and adhering to all school policies
  • Collaborating with colleagues and the school leadership team

Ideal candidates will:

  • Be enthusiastic about building a career in education and expanding their knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Have experience working with children in a primary or secondary setting
  • We also welcome applicants with backgrounds in support work, care, education, and sports
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Be registered (or willing to register) with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
  • Be passionate about improving educational outcomes for all pupils
  • Possess excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Support and promote the school’s ethos
