We have an exciting opportunity for a FUEL CELL MODELLER to be based at our clients offices in Oxfordshire.

About the Project:

The STEP project is in the conceptual design phase working towards the development of an overall integrated concept. Of particular interest, and the focus of this job card, is the
development of Fuel Cycle process models for the Tritium Extraction System, Coolant Detritiation System, Water Detritiation System and Impurity Purification System to support the development of the breeder blanket and associated blanket coolant design. These process models are all to be developed within the Aspen HYSYS Modelling Software. In addition the role is likely to involve continued development of the tritium transport model within COMSOL.

About the Role:

The scope of the job is to join the STEP Fuel Cycle Team reporting to the Fuel Cycle Modelling Lead to support the development of Fuel Cycle models. The models will cover a number of Fuel Cycle sub-systems and tritium transport, in and around the breeder blanket region. The output of this work will be the ability to produce key design metrics (e.g. power consumption, tritium inventories) for Fuel Cycle systems in and around the breeder blanket.

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for the update of existing and production of new models to support the STEP FC design.

This will include process models for sub-systems such as the Tritium Extraction System, Coolant Detritiation System and Water Detritiation system using software such as Aspen plus, Excel, COMSOL and MATLAB. These models will be focused on ensuring the ability to output key performance metrics (e.g. power consumption and tritium inventory) for the respective systems.

The person will work in close concert with the design engineers for the respective sub-systems. Effectively providing modelling support to help turn concepts and experimental results from literature into functioning models.

The person will also be responsible for the development of the existing Tritium Transport model in COMSOL, with a focus on tritium transport and permeation within the breeder blanket region.

The person will also be required to maintain full and accurate records of work done and be expected to be able to present results of work via written reports, presentations, etc as necessary to share results.

Specific Qualifications and Experience:

The person in this role would be expected to have a degree in Chemical Engineering/a similar engineering/science subject. They would also be experienced in the usage of the Aspen Plus software and have experience with scripting mathematical models. They would preferably be experienced in the usage of COMSOL.
