We have a current opportunity for a UK Innovation Science Seed Fund - Governance Review Implementation Manager on a contract basis. The position will be based in Abingdon. For further information about this position please apply.

The purpose of this role is to support the special partners (DSIT, UKAEA, UKRI, DSTL, UKSA) in implementing the recommendations arising from a recent review of the governance and performance of the UK Innovation Science Seed Fund. The role will also involve working closely with the general partner who manages the fund on behalf of the partnership. This is expected to be a time-limited role for 6 months (Jan to June 2025), depending on working hours. We expect working hours to be around (phone number removed) FTE.

The postholder will be able to work remotely, with visits to London, Harwell and Culham. Part-time and flexible working patterns can be accommodated.

The UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund is a national seed investment fund that nurtures innovative businesses to leverage private investment and grow jobs, recycling profits from the realisation of our investments into the next generation of impactful UK companies. We invest in innovations emerging from the UK's publicly funded science and knowledge base.

The special partners commissioned a review of the governance and performance of UKI2S. The review has recently reported and made a series of helpful recommendations that now require implementation. The recommendations cover areas such as strategy, governance, assurance, resourcing, processes and performance management.

The purpose of the role is to:

  1. Prioritise the recommendations from the review.
  2. Act as a co-ordinator across the stakeholders and provide regular updates on progress.
  3. Implement the quick-wins from the review.
  4. Put in place longer-term plans to address some of the recommendations from the review that require a longer lead-time and initiate implementation where possible.
  5. Look at longer-term resourcing needs for the management of the fund by the special partners.

The role will require management of stakeholders across the special partners, limited partners, general partner (fund manager) and other advisors - such as the fund's consultation committee.

There may be other areas that arise during the course of this assignment which the postholder would also be asked to support with on behalf of the partners.

In this role we are looking for someone who:

  • Has project management experience.
  • Has experience of implementing appropriate governance structures for complex programmes,
  • Has a focus on ensuring high standards of performance management,
  • Is able to work across a range of stakeholders and take account of diverse views and perspectives,
  • Can implement streamlined and efficient finance and operational processes,
  • An understanding of how government works would also be beneficial.
