Are you a highly experienced Senior Estimator with a strong background in construction and civils, including expertise in cut and fill earthworks? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

About the Role

As Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for all financial and estimating aspects of our projects, from inception through to delivery. Your role will involve working closely with internal and external clients, other disciplines, and teams to deliver competitive and quality tender submissions that align with our business strategy.

Your ultimate goal will be to secure sufficient new work to drive the company’s continued growth, ensuring high-quality and profitable bids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review tenders, ensuring highly competitive, well-resourced submissions.
  • Liaise with the Estimating Director, Commercial Director, and Finance Department regarding contractual terms, bonds, and insurances.
  • Engage with senior management to incorporate their input into tenders and proposals.
  • Arrange and formally hand over new contracts at handover meetings.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
  • Lead tender negotiations as directed by the Estimating Director or Pre-Construction Director.
  • Manage all estimating elements for projects, ensuring full compliance with corporate and contract-specific procedures.
  • Prepare cost plans from minimal information and price from first principles, including procurement of subcontractor and material quotes.
  • Oversee the use of the Conquest Estimating System and database management.
  • Train and mentor junior estimating staff and graduates seconded to the department.
  • Analyse subcontract and supplier quotations, ensuring competitive pricing.
  • Provide design and cost control input and produce detailed cost plans and estimates at all project stages.

Key Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in estimating for large-scale building and civils projects, including cut and fill earthworks.
  • Expertise in pricing from first principles and preparing tender settlement sheets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction technology and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to produce cost plans, manage multiple projects, and lead negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of frameworks, design feasibility, and subcontract analysis.
  • Experience working with estimating software such as Conquest and On-Screen Take Off.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in construction estimating.
  • Ability to translate complex engineering designs into actionable plans.

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree or HND level in a relevant field.
  • Experience with training and mentoring junior staff.
