BCS are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to work for a local construction Company in the Aldermaston area. Projects with a focus on predominantly architectural fit out works on MOD sites.
Main duties:
As a QS, your core responsibility is to carefully estimate costs, calculate material needs and map out project timelines. You'll liaise closely with all teams to keep the job on track. Day-to-day, you'll:
- Negotiating contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers and subcontractors to maximize project profitability.
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and fellow team members.
- Consult with clients to understand their requirements
- Calculate quantities and costs for materials, labour, time frames
- Prepare tender packages and contracts, including bills of quantities
- Manage risk, value engineering and cost control measures
- Analyse repair/maintenance costs
- Negotiate contracts and schedules
- Oversee and value subcontractors' work for payments
- Ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards
- Continually assess value for the client's investment
- Analyse outcomes and provide budget/progress reports
- Advise on claims, disputes and any contractual issues
Must haves:

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry, with proven project delivery skills.
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of financial management principles, including cash flow analysis, cost reporting, and forecasting.
- Extensive experience with construction contracts, NEC (New Engineering Contract) experience desirable, but not essential.
- Experience of estimating, cost forecasting and reporting, cost control, cost risk management, contract documentation preparation, contract administration and strong MS excel skills.
- Experience in supporting procurement processes, including subcontractor selection and subcontract documents and supplier negotiations.
- Familiarity with construction-related legislation and the ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Commercial Awareness/Experience of NEC Contracts.
- Knowledge of, or strong estimating skills is desirable.
- Previous experience on AWE projects and familiarity with procedures would be advantageous.
- Willing and able to obtain and maintain the DV security clearance. Eagerness to stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and ongoing professional development.
