Role:Manufacturing or Product Development Designer
Salary:£25,000 to £30,000 per annum, plus benefits and career growth opportunities
Hours:8am 4.30pm Monday to Friday
Location:Alfreton Area, easily commutable from Mansfield, Nottingham, Derby, Belper, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Worksop, Sheffield, Newark-on-Trent, Loughborough or Burton upon Trent.

This highly successful manufacturing company design a wide range of solutions using Injection Moulding, Vacuum Forming, Metal & Plastic Extrusion and fabrication processes. Through continued growth the business is now seeking to recruit an additional Designer for their small & experienced Design & Development team.
The role has a wide range of duties that will be introduced & expanded on over time, which means the hiring manager can consider Designers who have experience of design for manufacture, design for product development or pure New Product Design.
The Role & Responsibilities
Working under the direction of the Design Manager, the Designer will be able to demonstrate an enthusiastic & proactive approach to work, whilst also being able to take instruction/direction when required.
The role will initially focus on supporting the wider business by managing product design variation requests from their business customers - managed through a defined process. With training, the Designer will be able to look after the process from start to finish from assessing the feasibility of the requested changes, to designing the changes for manufacture, to providing the variations costing to the client. Finally, the Designer will co-ordinate with production, imparting the changes required to the manufacturing department, which may include the producing product change notices and ensuring the delivered product is successfully deployed by the client.
Other responsibilities that will later become core responsibilities for the Designer, include creating or improving manufacturing processes, designing improvements to existing products and undertaking brand new product designs.
Skills/Requirements
With training provided on the companys products and procedures, this role could suit a Designer with good manufacturing process knowledge, or product development experience, or new product design skills.
Ideally the Designer will have current experience within a similar type role, or could suit a Graduate Designer with some hands-on experience gained from one or more placements.
Good communication skills are needed as the Designer will work with others across the company, with Suppliers and Customers too.
Can create accurate manufacture & detailed drawings
Ideally will have experience with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD, although experience with other CAD packages are equally of interest as cross training can be provided
Have the ability to design and project manage new products, including the testing of new products and designing new or improving existing production equipment in the factory
Experience of programming CAM software is useful, although training will be given
Experience of Injection moulding, Vacuum forming, Metal and plastic extrusions or Aluminium fabrication is useful but not essential
Good knowledge of general engineering principles
