We are currently seeking an Assistant Director of Education to join an innovative provider of care for young people with Learning difficulties covering the West Midlands and Oxfordshire region.

The Assistant Director of Education will be responsible for managing, planning and co-ordinating, at both strategic and operational levels supporting the Director in overseeing 8 schools and line managingHeadteachers.

Overview of the role of Assistant Director of Education:

  • Be responsible for budget, performance, and quality of the schools in addition to the line management of 8 headteachers
  • Serve as a liaison between the director and the rest of the team, ensuring smooth communication and efficient execution of tasks
  • Be responsible for overseeing and directing educational policies, programs, and initiatives within a Local Authority and the organisation
  • Provide direction, support, and constructive feedback for team members through regular 1:1 meetings
  • Ensure all directorate business, including ad-hoc projects, are appropriately financially managed
  • Support the Director of Education as needed, ensuring that the educational provision and ethos of each school remains closely aligned to theGroup
  • Plan and carry out regular visits to the schools in order to support ongoing school development
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the SEND and Education strategy across the Group
  • Ensure high-quality educational experiences for all students
  • Work closely with schools within the Group to promote inclusion and best practices in SEND education
  • Liaise with external agencies and stakeholders to foster partnerships and support services
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision and outcomes
  • Support schools in developing and reviewing their policies and practices
  • Provide training and development opportunities for staff on SEND issues and pedagogy
  • Line manage, mentor and support Executive Headteachers, Headteachers, SENDCOs and other school leaders (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) within the Group
  • Analyze data related to outcomes and use it to inform decision-making and strategic planning
Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant degree (e.g., Education, Special Education)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Proven experience in leadership roles within education, preferably in SEND and or Independent School settings
  • A track record of improving outcomes for students with SEND
  • Access to a vehicle due to frequent travel in the role
  • Familiar with how referrals in Independent Schools work, Local Authority funding and Ofsted
  • Previous experience as a Headteacher or above of independent school and familiar with the Independent School Standards
  • Experience of managing stakeholders and forming good working relationships at all levels

  • Strong knowledge of current legislation and best practices related to SEND
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges
