Fixed term contract 18 months

A field trials assistant/ plant scientist or plant field trials specialist or someone with a background in agriculture is urgently required for the field trials area of a leading client in its field.

As field trials technical assistant, you will report to the Forage Technical Manager, assisting in all day-to-day activities of the Forage crops trials team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To assist with maize drilling & harvesting, working with other technical staff on trials preparation, drilling, cultivation, spraying, harvesting, sampling, scoring.
  • To assist with the maintenance of the demonstration area.
  • Mowing, spraying, weeding, fleecing, cultivations etc.
  • To assist in all preparation, drilling and harvesting of trials, grass, herbage, brassicas, and environmental demonstration.
  • Assist in the collection of data.
  • To work both independently and as part of a team.
  • To work carefully and to understand fully the need accuracy in all that we do weighing, recording, data collection.

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate attention to detail and be a team player.

This role requires a flexible approach including working outside normal office hours during the peak season.

Must have a car and full driving licence


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Background in Environmental Science or Plant Science, or Plant Breeding or Agriculture or Horticulture or arable farming qualifications
  • Industry-relevant experience preferable in plant field trials or agriculture
  • Thorough knowledge of arable farming and the agricultural industry
  • Any spraying experience but Full training can be given.

a full driving licence is essential.
