This position will cover a large geographical area, with initial projects ranging from Chelmsford to the West Midlands. Job Overview

As an Environmental Advisor, you will be an integral part of our Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) team. Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert environmental support to our operational teams, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and promoting best practices across various frameworks. This role demands a proactive approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Operational Teams: Assist and advise operational and management teams in the development and implementation of environmental management systems and operational practices.
  • Document Review: Support the creation and review of construction phase plans, environmental plans, and contractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Specialist Advice: Provide guidance on specialist environmental areas, including risk assessments, risk management, hazardous substances, noise control, fire regulations, and occupational health.
  • SHE Management Systems: Assist with the continuous development and improvement of SHE management systems to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with external bodies, including the Health and Safety Executive, clients, and other stakeholders, as directed by the SHE Manager.
  • Incident Management: Support the incident management and investigation process, helping to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Training and Development: Produce and deliver toolbox talks, team talks, and other SHE training materials to raise awareness about health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Site Inspection and Audits: Monitor trade contractors through site inspections and management audits, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Leadership: Act as a role model for safety and environmental best practices, embodying the MES Gas construction vision, priorities, and values.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Safety Leadership: Demonstrated ability to promote a strong safety culture and lead by example.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a Safety or Environmental Advisor in a construction environment is essential, with utilities experience being highly desirable.
  • Temporary Works Management: Knowledge and experience in managing temporary works.
  • Influence and Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels and manage potential conflicts during site inspections.
  • Presentation Skills: Capable of delivering clear and articulate presentations to various audiences.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Qualifications: NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate is required. NRSWA qualification and Utility SHEA Gas Passport are desirable. Licenses: A full driving license and willingness to travel are essential. SCO91 Knowledge: Familiarity with SCO91 is preferable but not essential.
