Your new companyHays Specialist Recruitment are working with Mid & East Antrim Borough Council's to source a Principal Environmental Health Officer for a part-time contract post based in Ballymena.

Your new roleThis position is a part-time job working 22.2 hours per week over 3 days on a contract basis for 3 months with possible extension. The post is based from their Ballymena office and will have the responsibility for managing a team who oversee a distinct Environmental Health function covering all environmental health services.

Some of the main duties will include:

  • Liaise with government departments, partner agencies and stakeholders on matters relating to the defined remit.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including discussion with the Environmental Health Manager about the need to instigate legal proceedings, maintaining an oversight in the preparation of documentary supporting evidence and attending court proceedings.
  • Research and prepare reports, recommendations and consultation responses on service-related issues.
  • In conjunction with the EH Manager and Principal EHO colleagues you will coordinate and direct staff resources in terms of workloads and priorities.

  • Degree in Environmental Health
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

ANDBe able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years' experience in:

  • A local government Environmental Health role and,
  • Effective supervision and management of a team;
  • Effective budgetary management following specified procedures and guidance; and
  • Complex regulatory enforcement
