Senior Bioanalytical Chemist (Plant Chemistry) £50-65k + Bonus

As an experienced analytical chemist or biochemist working in plant chemistry, proficient in LCMS, is urgently required to support the plant bioanalytical workstreams to deliver strategic priorities in extraction by using state of the art facilities within a global R&D team.

Experienced in both LC-MS and HP-TLC you will support the technical developments in this exclusive field and lead technical interactions with project teams, strategic suppliers and research partners, including the review of outsourced research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting up extraction capabilities including method development to achieve target specs.

Using LC-MS and HPTLC.

  • Developing methods to trace manufacturing consistency in accordance with quality standards.
  • Building a robust patent portfolio from a process and extract composition angles.
  • Spec verification of samples for consumer research.
  • Ageing studies.
  • Developing methods to enhance process ESG metrics.
  • Stock management and analytical data recording and management.
  • Closely monitor emerging extraction technologies and potential external partners.

Qualifications and Experience

PhD in Plant chemistry, Plant biochemistry, Plant biotechnology, Phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy or Botany with a strong background in natural product research.

Extensive hands-on experience in various extraction technologies including solvent extraction, and SFE.

Hands-on experience in detection methods including LC/MS and HP-TLC

Good knowledge in chromatography science, including thin layer chromatography, SFC, liquid chromatography (LC) , gas chromatography (GC) and spectrophotometry techniques.

Hands-on experience in standard lab testing including density and pH measurements.

Proven strategic thinking, analysing critical factors and variables to influence long-term project success.

Successful collaboration among diverse cultures; good initiative and independent thinking; effective communication, briefing and presentation skills.

Resilient, flexible, and confident to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ambiguous environment.
