Job Title: Trade Waste Planner

Location: Ridham Dock Road, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 8SR

Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 per annum DOE

Job type: Permanent, Full-time

Working Hours: Monday – Friday (42.5 hours)

About the Role:

The Transport Planner is responsible for efficiently planning and coordinating a fleet of dustcarts and 7.5-ton vans to ensure the timely and compliant collection of wheelie bins across multiple commercial properties. This role is essential for optimising fleet operations, managing staff and vehicle resources, and upholding all regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain efficient route plans for wheelie bin collection, considering schedules, vehicle capacities, geographic coverage, and access constraints.
  • Continuously analyse and optimize collection routes to improve efficiency, reduce mileage, and minimize fuel consumption.
  • Allocate and schedule the required number of dustcarts and staff to meet daily collection demands.
  • Coordinate with the workshop and third-party main dealers to ensure fleet maintenance and availability.
  • Oversee the scheduling and deployment of drivers and loaders for efficient daily operations.
  • Ensure staff are trained and equipped to perform duties safely and effectively.
  • Monitor staff performance, addressing any issues to maintain high productivity and customer service standards.
  • Ensure fleet and operations comply with all relevant regulations, including vehicle roadworthiness, driver licensing, and environmental standards.
  • Implement and manage a vehicle service schedule to ensure timely maintenance and inspections.
  • Stay current with regulatory changes and industry best practices, adapting operations as needed.
  • Collect and analyse data on fleet performance, including fuel consumption, mileage, and collection efficiency.
  • Identify areas for operational improvement and recommend strategies to boost efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure driver tablets and vehicle weighing systems are functional, logging any faults that cannot be resolved internally.
  • Conduct driver debriefs on compliance systems to maintain a safe and compliant driver profile.
  • Carry out site assessments for vehicle access, both virtually and in-person when necessary.
  • Reconcile agency timesheets to ensure accurate timekeeping and timely invoicing.
  • Manage purchase orders and invoices for accurate and timely processing.
  • Promptly respond to inbound calls and emails, providing efficient customer service.
  • Provide coverage and support for other Trade Waste team members as needed.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to optimise route planning and fleet utilisation effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate efficiently with staff, customers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance requirements within the waste management industry.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt quickly to changing operational demands.

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in using transportation management software and data analysis tools, enhancing planning and efficiency.
  • Relevant experience in transportation or logistics planning, ideally within the waste management industry.
