Your main responsibilities as a Port Health Officer:
- Conduct inspections and enforce health regulations across the port, ensuring compliance with national and international legislation.
- Advise on and take enforcement actions in response to port health issues, ensuring public and environmental health standards are maintained.
- Lead and develop specialized areas within Port Health, keeping up to date with changes in legislation and best practices.
- Represent the Port Health Service in liaising with stakeholders, including government bodies, businesses, and the public.
- Assist in the execution of the Port Health Service Business Plan by planning and undertaking inspections, interventions, and casework.
- Draft enforcement notices and advise on legal proceedings when necessary.
Key Requirements for the role:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Health, recognized by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
- Registered with the EHO Registration Board (EHORB) and a Chartered Member of CIEH.
- Postgraduate qualification relevant to Port Health work, such as Food Safety.
- Extensive knowledge of food and feed controls, public and environmental health legislation, and border control post operations.
- Strong IT skills.
- Experience in Port Health and Environmental Health practices.
- UK driving license.
