Job Description: Port Health Officer
Location: London Gateway Port (Stanford-le-Hope,Essex)

Your main responsibilities as a Port Health Officer:

  • Conduct inspections and enforce health regulations across the port, ensuring compliance with national and international legislation.
  • Advise on and take enforcement actions in response to port health issues, ensuring public and environmental health standards are maintained.
  • Lead and develop specialized areas within Port Health, keeping up to date with changes in legislation and best practices.
  • Represent the Port Health Service in liaising with stakeholders, including government bodies, businesses, and the public.
  • Assist in the execution of the Port Health Service Business Plan by planning and undertaking inspections, interventions, and casework.
  • Draft enforcement notices and advise on legal proceedings when necessary.

Key Requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Health, recognized by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
  • Registered with the EHO Registration Board (EHORB) and a Chartered Member of CIEH.
  • Postgraduate qualification relevant to Port Health work, such as Food Safety.
  • Extensive knowledge of food and feed controls, public and environmental health legislation, and border control post operations.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Experience in Port Health and Environmental Health practices.
  • UK driving license.
