Switchboard Operator - Nights | up to 6 months | Sussex | Band 3
We are working with a NHS Organisation who are seeking a professional and responsive individual to join their Switchboard Services team on a temporary basis of up to 6 months. As a Switchboard Operator, you will be responsible for answering all incoming and internal calls to the Trust in a professional manner, ensuring requests are dealt with efficiently. You will play a crucial role in maintaining good communication and working relationships with colleagues and other Trust staff.
Responsibilities
- Answer all incoming and internal calls promptly and professionally
- Operate Emergency Procedures, including Cardiac Arrest, Fire, and Major Incident Plan
- Order taxis for out-of-hours hospital staff
- Maintain communication and working relationships with colleagues and other Trust staff
- Comply with departmental procedures to ensure accurate and consistent service
- Make recommendations to decision makers regarding relevant policies or services
- Respond effectively to alarms monitored within Switchboard Services
- Manage maintenance and replacement of equipment and keys
- Report faults and defects to the appropriate team/provider
- Deal with 'On-Call', 'Wake-Up Calls', and other contact arrangements
- Maintain accurate recording documentation and issue/receipt of equipment and keys
- Issue bleeps and pagers according to procedure and update the directory of holders
- Carry out implementation of administrative requirements to improve operational efficiency
- Attend all required training and participate in Trust appraisal scheme
- Identify and report equipment failures and recognised cost-saving opportunities
- Support patient care delivery with a focus on Patient First practices
- Attend mandatory training updates and undertake necessary training for personal development
Experience
- Experience in using a switchboard is advantageous but not essential
- Ability to maintain professionalism and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow procedures accurately and efficiently
- Willingness to participate in training and development opportunities
This role is for night shifts only (22:00 - 08:00) and up to 40 hours per week. You will need to be flexible and immediately available.
