Are you an experienced and detail-oriented bookkeeper looking for an engaging role in a dynamic environment? Our organization manages two business entities—a charity and a trading arm—that include diverse operations such as a wedding venue, micro-brewery, café, retail outlet, and museum. We are seeking a skilled Bookkeeper to join our team and handle the day-to-day financial operations, with support from our external accountants.

About the Role:This is a standalone bookkeeping role that offers variety and responsibility across multiple departments. You’ll report to the Board of Trustees and work closely with department managers to ensure the smooth running of financial processes.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Processing supplier invoices and payments.
  • Raising sales invoices for weddings, group bookings, school visits, and grants.
  • Managing bank payments, reconciliations, and credit control.
  • Weekly cash handling: reconciling takings from our café, museum, and taproom with the EPOS system.
  • Monitoring and maintaining accurate deferred income/prepayments schedules.
  • Entering transactions into Sage 50 Professional and liaising with external accountants for monthly management accounts.
  • Preparing documentation for annual audits and ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements.
  • Producing monthly department reports (actuals vs. budget) and key performance dashboards for Trustee meetings.
  • Payroll processing: verifying timesheets and liaising with the external payroll bureau.
  • Regularly checking VAT compliance on EPOS items and submitting monthly Brewery Duty Claims.
  • Assisting the management team with budgeting, pricing, and ad-hoc financial reports.

About You:We’re looking for a qualified and organized bookkeeper who can thrive in a busy environment and manage financial processes independently. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of Sage 50 Professional.
  • Advanced understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, including journal corrections.
  • Excellent Excel skills with the ability to create reports and spreadsheets from scratch.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask across several departments.
  • A proactive, self-motivated attitude and the ability to work unsupervised.
