Are you a Laboratory Assistant looking for a new Part-time role?

PelGar International Ltd is now recruiting for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Part-Time Laboratory Assistant to support the laboratory operations at their Alton Site.

Laboratory Assistant - About the role:

The primary focus of this role is maintaining insect cultures and assisting with laboratory trials. The ideal candidate will be passionate about entomology, laboratory work, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety in the lab environment.

Responsibilities:

Insect Maintenance:

Culturing pest species of insects
Feeding and watering insects according to established protocols.
Cleaning insect enclosures to ensure optimal hygiene and prevent contamination.

Laboratory Testing:

Preparing insects for laboratory trials and experiments.
Setting up and closing down laboratory trials, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
Recording trial results promptly and with precision.
Preparing testing equipment and surfaces before and after experiments.
Adhering to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) to avoid cross-contamination and ensure the integrity of experiments.

General Duties:

Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness throughout the laboratory, strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Preventing insecticide cross-contamination and mitigating insect disease risks.
Following health and safety procedures diligently to ensure a safe working environment.
Working independently, managing and prioritizing tasks to meet shifting deadlines.
Providing coverage for colleagues as needed to ensure continuous lab operations.
Contributing to team discussions and offering suggestions for improving lab processes.
Reporting potential issues or concerns to the Line Manager promptly.
Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of feed and consumables necessary for insect cultures and trials.

Laboratory Assistant - Candidates Skills and experience:

Previous experience in a laboratory setting
Knowledge or interest in entomology or pest species is an advantage.
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
Commitment to high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Familiarity with laboratory health and safety regulations.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Degree in a Biosciences field preferred
