Duty Compliance Accountant

T2M Resourcing are recruiting a Duty Compliance Accountantto join the finance teambased out of a state of the art office of a highly successful leading international business with significant financial investment and growth plans.

Our client is seeking an analytical Duty Compliance Accountantwith an enthusiastic, 'can do’ solutions based approach who loves to work on their own initiative but also thrives as a team player within a fast paced environment covering the role of Duty Compliance Accountant, with the responsibility to deliver business insights through high quality data reporting, ensuring a varied, challenging and rewarding role.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract, for the right candidate there may be further opportunity within the organisation.

Responsibilities of a Duty Compliance Accountant:

  • Responsibility for the review, consolidation and preparation of monthly excise duty liability
  • Ensuring the accurate accounting of customs and excise duty liabilities in the general ledger in accordance with business timetable
  • Forecasting of excise duty gains and losses from fluctuations and recovery and reporting to the Group Financial Controller on variances to budget
  • Ensuring UK activity operates within HMRC guidelines and that all stock have appropriate licenses to cover operational activity
  • Managing the excise duty deferment limits with UK to ensure no interruption to product supply
  • Ensuring any operational changes to the business are understood from a tax perspective, communicated and appropriate actions taken to ensure accurate reporting and compliance
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with all excise duty stakeholders across the business
  • Engaging with HMRC and speaking with authority on customs and excise matters with local agents

Requirements to be successful as a Duty Compliance Accountant:

  • Part-qualified accountant (AAT/CIMA/ACCA/ACA) looking to close off qualification
  • Ideally degree qualified in finance, business or equivalent
  • Willingness to learn the legislation and legal notices relating to customs and excise
  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Must be IT savvy, with strong excel and reporting writing skills
  • Confident and articulate with great communication skills to interact with all levels of stakeholders within finance, operations and the wider business
  • Inquisitive and detail focused - happy to dig into information to find solutions to issues
  • Financial systems experience, ideally Oracle

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK on a permanent full time basis.
