Application Engineer - Andover

We are currently looking for an Application Engineer to join our clients established and growing business. The role has come about due to an internal promotion.

Venatu Recruitment Group are working with the UK's Leading Technical Experts in Standby Power, Uninterruptible Power Supplies and Combined Heat and Power Systems.

A thriving business, with over 40 years in the standby power and energy efficiency markets, they supply, install, hire and maintain critical power systems and associated equipment such as generators, UPS systems and switchgear. They have a strong family management structure, and high standards of performance and ethics. We have a mature financial position and trade from multiple locations around the UK, and you would be part of a team of circa 100 staff. Job Title: Applications Engineer - Projects

Overall Role Purpose:

This is a role predominantly an office-based that focuses on the estimating and initial design of generator and UPS projects from £100,000.00 and upwards. The role will include client facing meetings and site visits to support the Key Account Managers technically and to enable the successful candidate to fully understand the clients brief. The role will include liaising and working with the Key Account Managers, Technical/Design

Team, and our supply chain as well as issuing RFI's to clients on behalf of the Key Account Managers when required

Main areas of responsibility:

• Liaising with the Key Account Managers and their customers to fully understand their technical requirements

• Reading and understanding client specifications

• Estimating / costing projects from the client's specification or Key Account Managers brief

• Ensuring the tender return deadlines set by the Key Account Manager are met

• Liaising with our supply chain to get project specific information and quotations

• Producing quotations that are spec compliant and ensuring we offer VE opportunities where possible whilst pointing out both opportunity and risk areas to the client and internal teams

• Writing of bid letters / tender responses as well as producing compliance documents

• Carrying out front end cost studies, designs and feasibility studies on behalf of the Key Account

Managers

• Supporting the Key Account Managers with customer meetings and site visits

• Liaising with the technical team to produce the necessary drawings and technical submittals to support our tender return

• Producing and updating of internal price lists by liaising with our supply chain

• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers

• Producing of pricing tools / calculators

• Ensuring that the system wording is correct, up to date and technically compliant whilst being written in a client friendly way

• Sitting in project handovers to explain how the projects have been designed and costed once the order comes in

• Attending the daily, weekly and monthly Sales & Estimating Meetings

Experience and qualifications

Essential:

• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience within the industry, or similar role.

• Experience in one of the following areas - estimating high turnover capital projects in different industries; project management within an engineering industry or experience within mechanical or electrical commercial environments.

• Handling of supply chain to ensure the company brand is upheld

• Strong attention to detail

• A balanced technical and commercial outlook

• Strong practical electrical and mechanical engineering knowledge IT skills, fluent with Outlook, Excel, & Word.

Desirable:

• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification

• Able to read mechanical or electrical drawings

• Strong practical knowledge of generator installations and associated equipment

• CSCS card

• Experience with building services plant (both electrical and mechanical)

• Knowledge of BMS protocol languages such as Modbus / Profibus / BACNet etc
