Job Description

As the Head of Sales and Marketing, you'll lead the commercial function and be responsible for marketing initiatives, developing strategies that drive growth, expand market presence, and enhance customer engagement. You'll work closely with senior leadership to identify new opportunities, build strong customer relationships, and position SMI as a leader in high-performance engineering solutions.

This is a real 'roll your sleeves up' and get involved opportunity, where you will be very proactive in driving opportunities, be client facing and leading from the front.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales and marketing strategyto drive revenue growth and market share.
  • Lead and inspire the sales team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaborativelywith third party agencies and partners to deliver appropriate and targeted demand generation activities throughout the year.
  • Identify new markets and business opportunities, aligning SMI's offerings with customer needs and market demands.
  • Build and maintain strong relationshipswith key clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Liaise with legal advisorsto resolve complex commercial legal issues. Strong understanding of the Client contract; identifying where contract amendments and renewals are required (working with Legal as necessary).

The Successful Applicant

The successful Head of Sales and Marketing will:-

  • Have proven experience in a senior sales and marketing role, ideally within the engineering, defence, marine, or related sectors.
  • Be experienced in influencing credibly and effectively at all levels; comfortable with developing high level relationships e.g. board level industry, senior service personnel and government.
  • Preferably have experience selling into Defence procurement processes for technical components and systems.
  • Have a track record of shaping and delivering client-focused technical solutions based on unique customer needs for strategic seven figure projects and deals.
  • Have demonstrable achievements against challenging sales targets and against sales cycles lasting in some cases many months.
  • Have significant experience negotiating commercial contract terms on long term, complex projects
  • Possess strong leadership skills with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Be a strategic thinker with an ability to develop and execute data-driven sales and marketing plans.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
