About the Role:

GSL SEN Education are seeking passionate a SEN Teaching Assistant to work with a child with ADHD in a mainstream primary school. This role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm. The school is in a great location and is easily accessible via public transport.

In this role you will be working 1:1 with this student in year 4. You’ll be expected to support the student in and outside the classroom, having a sports background will be beneficial for this role too.

Key Responsibilities of a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant:

  • Build trusting relationships with students using a restorative approach.
  • Support students with complex mental health and emotional needs.
  • Help demonstrate the value of education to students.
  • Assist in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure each student receives the necessary care and guidance.
  • Working 1:1 with students offering extra support

Key Requirements of a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant:

  • Teaching Assistant Level 2 or equivalent
  • A sincere passion for working with children who have special educational needs.
  • A sports background playing or coaching
  • The ability to build strong, comfort-based relationships with students.
  • A genuine interest in understanding the challenges faced by young people with mental health and trauma issues.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Resilience and adaptability to deal with a variety of emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Will have a Clear Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce/ Child and Adult Workforce) registered to the Update Service. – If you don’t already have a DBS, we can help you apply for one.
