Our client, a leading player in the automotive industry, is currently seeking an Automotive Composite Trimmer / Fitter for a contract position. This role is essential in ensuring the precision trimming, fitting, and assembly of composite components for high-performance vehicles, adhering to strict safety, quality, and performance standards.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Trimming & Fitting: Accurately trim and fit pre-formed composite components using hand tools, jigs, and power tools, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • Surface Finishing: Carry out surface preparation such as sanding, cutting, polishing, and finishing of composite materials to achieve the desired surface quality.
  • Assembly: Assemble composite parts into sub-assemblies or full vehicle builds, ensuring correct fit, alignment, and functionality of components.
  • Bonding & Sealing: Apply adhesives and bonding agents for the secure joining of composite materials. Ensure proper sealing of components where required.
  • Quality Inspection: Inspect finished parts for defects, including surface finish, fit, and structural integrity. Correct any minor imperfections and report major issues to the supervisor.
  • Tool Maintenance: Maintain all tools and equipment used in the trimming and fitting process, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
  • Health & Safety: Follow all health and safety guidelines, particularly those relevant to working with composite materials such as carbon fibre or fibreglass, and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production engineers, quality control teams, and other departments to ensure parts meet quality standards and deadlines.


Job Requirements:



Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in trimming and fitting automotive composite materials, preferably in a high-performance or motorsport environment.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (e.g., verniers, micrometers).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Experience with bonding techniques, sealing methods, and surface finishing processes.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Relevant certifications or technical qualifications in composite materials or automotive manufacturing are advantageous.


Desirable Qualities:

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.


Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in a production environment with exposure to materials such as carbon fibre, resins, and bonding agents.
  • May require lifting and handling of lightweight composite components.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to meet production deadlines.
