Your new companyMy client is a small multidisciplinary surveying firm with 26 experienced and friendly staff. They have various survey services and are now looking to add BNG assessments to that list. You'll be carving your niche in the business by starting this workstream, they have extensive requests for BNG assessments, so you wouldn't be starting from scratch or doing any cold business development.If you'd like to develop a department and work independently whilst being fully supported by an excellent MD and colleagues, look no further.Your new roleYou'll be working with a range of architects, planners, developers and construction companies. The role is based in NW Leicestershire with hybrid working.Key Responsibilities:* Lead and manage planning projects with a specific focus on achieving Biodiversity Net Gain.* Provide expert advice on biodiversity conservation and enhancement strategies to clients.* Conduct BNG assessments and ecological surveys to identify biodiversity and habitat types on sites and their BNG potential (both offsetting sites and development sites) .* Develop and implement Biodiversity Net Gain strategies in alignment with relevant legislation, metrics, and best practices* Build and maintain relationships with Local Planning Authorities, conservation organisations, Wildlife Trusts, and other stakeholders.* Collaborate with surveyors to integrate biodiversity considerations into projects.* Prepare technical reports for planning submission, condition discharge and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.* Stay updated on emerging trends in biodiversity conservation and planning policy.* Conduct site-based surveys and monitoring across the Midlands and occasionally further afield.What you'll need to succeed* Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, Ecology, Planning, or a related subject. MSc desirable* FISC 3 qualification or higher* Some membership with CIEEM* Experience in a consultancy environment working on ecology/BNG projects.* Strong understanding of biodiversity legislation, including national and local policies.* Proven experience in managing projects focused on Biodiversity Net Gain and working with tools like the Statutory Metric.* Familiarity with ecological principles, habitat assessments, and species surveys.* Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical information to various audiences.* Experience in engaging with government bodies and local authorities.* Proficiency in planning software such as GIS and ecological modelling tools, alongside Microsoft Office Suite.* Full UK Driving licence and willingness to travel for site work.What you'll get in return
