Design & Development Engineer Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive mechanical design work for heavy machinery, extrusion tooling, and process equipment.
  • Testing and evaluating new designs both on in-house equipment and at client locations.
  • Preparing detailed performance reports, including recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborating with the Technical Director on projects to integrate innovative technologies.
  • Commissioning Conform extrusion lines at client facilities.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation.

The successful applicant will be working on production equipment much of which, being customer specific, is for one off manufacture. They will be expected to travel to commission machines and provide technical support to customers worldwide on average 3 - 5 times per year, for between 2 and 5 weeks each time.



Design & Development Engineer Job Requirements

  • A degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A systematic and analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar 3D design tools.
  • Capability to produce engineering drawings in compliance with BS8888 standards.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Practical experience with inspection and quality control processes.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing practices, particularly related to metalworking.
  • Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.


Design & Development Engineer Salary & Benefits

  • Salary dependent on experience likely £35k-£45k
  • This is a full time position of 37 hours per week, working 08.00 - 16.30 Monday to Thursday, and 08.00 to 13.00 Friday.
  • We have a contributory pension scheme, 5 weeks annual leave (up to 4 days are mandatory as the company is shut between Christmas and New Year) and flexitime.
