Our client is a leading multi-disciplinary main contractor based in Kent. Specialising in delivering high-quality construction projects across a variety of sectors, they have built a strong reputation for excellence and attention to detail. The company is involved in a wide range of sectors, ensuring a varied and dynamic workload across commercial, residential, and industrial projects.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Commercial Manager to join our client's team. This role will oversee all commercial aspects of the business across multiple sectors, such as commercial, residential, industrial and small works. The successful candidate will manage cost control, procurement, and commercial risk, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. You will work closely with senior leadership, project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to drive the success of projects from £1m up to £20m in value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee cost management across a variety of sectors from project inception to completion.
  • Lead on procurement and contractual negotiations with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Manage the commercial performance of the business, including reporting on project costs, cash flow, and overall profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and manage risks to deliver projects within agreed financial parameters.
  • Lead a team of Quantity Surveyors, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure optimal performance.
  • Review and assess contractor/supplier quotations to ensure best value is achieved.
  • Prepare and submit valuations, payment applications, and final accounts.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with cost, time, and quality across all projects.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams to foster effective collaboration.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years' experience in a commercial role, ideally with main contractor or subcontractor experience in the construction industry.
  • Qualifications: A degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field is preferred. RICS or equivalent accreditation is desirable.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of commercial management, procurement, and cost control across all construction sectors (residential, commercial, industrial, etc.).
  • Leadership: Proven experience in leading and developing teams within a fast-paced, multi-sector environment.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • IT Proficiency: Proficient in the use of relevant industry software (e.g., MS Office, CostX, or similar).
  • Attention to Detail: Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
