Job SummaryA primary is seeking a reliable and hardworking School Caretaker to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and smooth day-to-day running of our school premises. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the school’s buildings and grounds, carrying out minor repairs, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Maintenance & Security- Ensure the school grounds and buildings are kept clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks, reporting larger issues to the appropriate contractors.
- Oversee site security, including opening and closing the school, alarm checks, and monitoring access points.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Support the cleaning team to maintain high hygiene standards across the school.
- Ensure that all communal areas, classrooms, and facilities are kept tidy and in good working order.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling processes efficiently.
- Undertake basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and other minor repairs as needed.
- Monitor heating, lighting, and ventilation systems to ensure they are operating effectively.
- Arrange and oversee routine servicing of equipment and liaise with external contractors when necessary.
- Maintain outdoor areas, including playgrounds, pathways, and green spaces, ensuring they are safe and tidy.
- Conduct seasonal upkeep, such as clearing leaves, gritting pathways in winter, and basic gardening.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including fire safety procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and report any hazards or issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance work, and safety procedures.
- Experience in a similar caretaker or facilities role.
- Practical maintenance skills (basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and repair work).
- Strong awareness of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and proactive in maintaining school facilities.
- Previous experience working in a school or similar environment.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations and fire safety procedures.
- Relevant qualifications in facilities management or maintenance.
