Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Hygiene Supervisor to join our client’s team in the food industry, specifically within an abattoir environment focusing on red meat. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the hygiene standards and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health). 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Supervision and Training:
    • Supervise and lead the hygiene team, ensuring all personnel are trained to the highest standards in hygiene practices and COSHH regulations.
    • Conduct regular training sessions on hygiene SOPs, cleaning processes, and chemical safety.
    • Ensure all team members are equipped with the necessary PPE and understand its proper use.
  • Hygiene Management:
    • Oversee the daily hygiene operations within the abattoir, ensuring all areas meet the required cleanliness and sanitation standards.
    • Implement and monitor cleaning schedules, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
    • Conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
  • COSHH Compliance:
    • Ensure all hygiene activities comply with COSHH regulations, including the safe handling and storage of hazardous substances.
    • Maintain up-to-date records of COSHH assessments and ensure all staff are aware of the associated risks and safety measures.
    • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to COSHH guidelines and address any non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure the abattoir conforms to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards and is audit-ready at all times.
    • Perform chemical concentration checks and ensure the correct use of cleaning agents.
    • Investigate and resolve any hygiene-related issues or complaints.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of all hygiene activities, including cleaning schedules, training logs, and COSHH assessments.
    • Prepare and present reports on hygiene performance and compliance to the Hygiene Manager.
    • Ensure all documentation is stored properly and is readily available for audits. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a hygiene supervisory role within the food industry, preferably in an abattoir or red meat processing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of COSHH regulations and experience in conducting COSHH assessments.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Relevant certifications in food safety and hygiene practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a cold and wet environment typical of an abattoir.
  • Physical stamina to handle the demands of the job, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects.
