Our client in Ashton Under Lyne is looking to recruit a Maintenance Engineer on a full time , permanent basis.

The role is both electrical & mechanically biased.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a successful multinational business who invests in staff training, infrastructure, and development.

Hours of work – Monday to Friday between 7am – 5pm.

Salary - £38,000 - £40,000 per year.

Role Purpose

Working as a hands-on Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing all site assets and proactively participating in safety improvement, cost reduction and process efficiency initiatives.

Maintenance Engineer Role Responsibilities -

  • As a hands-on Maintenance Engineer, you will be expected to lead by example and ensure the timely maintenance, service and repair of all plant and equipment on site.
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with the safe practices outlined in GCP’s Global Standards, the company’s SOP’s and any other relevant UK EHS legislation.
  • Help develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system covering all site assets and services.
  • When required, provide a timely response to plant break downs.
  • Maintain a comprehensive record of machinery breakdowns and faults.
  • Help identify and manage an accurate and secure inventory of critical spares.
  • Assist with the management of all contractors on site ensuring relevant Permits to Work are issued and adhered to.
  • Working closely with the Process and Warehouse teams, identify areas where 1st line maintenance can be carried out and help train staff to safely carry out this work.
  • Where required, liaise with suppliers and contractors to source replacement parts and 3rd party services.
  • Develop close relationships with other departments to proactively deliver, safety improvement, cost reduction and process efficiency initiatives.
  • As required, assist with the design, specification, preparation and implementation of Capital Expenditure Projects.

- Working as part of a team to communicate, investigate and solve issues on bespoke equipment.

Maintenance Engineer Qualifications & Experience Required –

Essential On Entry -

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a similar role.
  • City and Guilds/HNC Level (or equivalent) in Mechatronic Engineering / Maintenance.
  • Experience working within the Chemical Processing Industry ideally in an ATEX Environment and/or Lower Tier COMAH site.
  • Served a full relevant apprenticeship.

Essential In The Role –

  • Comfortable with handling chemicals and managing the associated risks.
  • The maturity to evaluate and risk assess personal actions and the work environment.
  • An enthusiastic, flexible approach and a willingness to learn.
  • Attention to detail and an appreciation of the need for completeness in work tasks.
  • The ability to listen, understand and adopt instructions and advice.
  • The confidence to question on areas of uncertainty or concern.

Desirable –

  • Experience within a similar industry.
  • The ability to verbally communicate observations in a concise, coherent and comprehensive way.
  • A tidy, professional manner of working and a readiness to promote the same in others.
