Overview

Our client is a specialist multi-disciplinary design and engineering business serving the pharmaceutical, medical, life-science and healthcare sectors. They are dedicated to delivering innovative and high-quality solutions to their clients, ranging from sensitive research facilities to complex sterile manufacturing environments.

They are currently seeking a Senior HVAC Mechanical Design Engineer to become a key member of their multi-disciplined design team and play an important role within the company as a whole.


About the role

Reporting to the Design Director, you will have responsibility for the Mechanical HVAC design processes from concept through detailed design including an involvement when required to assist in delivering the project on site.

Key responsibilities will typically include:
  • Inspiring and leading the design team to ensure technical excellence and commercial success.
  • Guiding the team to create a harmonious design that meets program and budget requirements.
  • Serving as the primary client contact until the construction team is appointed and nurturing collaboration with consultants.
  • Embracing required detail levels at each stage, advising the team, and proactively informing Directors of challenges.
  • Managing client change requests effectively and overseeing associated costs and timelines.
  • Leading coordination meetings and promoting innovative tools like Revizto and M-Files.
  • Clearly communicating project progress and design intricacies to all teams.
  • Ensuring quality and timely distribution of information, securing client approvals before advancing stages.
  • Conducting buildability reviews and capturing decisions that enhance efficiency and value.
  • Understanding CDM tasks and collaborating with the Principal Designer Representative to uphold safety.
  • Engaging in project reviews to showcase compliance and celebrate successes.
  • Empowering the development of junior engineers while maintaining a record of competencies.
  • Ultimately, leading the creation of a design solution that is technically robust and meets client and legislative requirements.

About you


Suitable candidates should be able to demonstrate:
  • Proven record of success as a Mechanical/HVAC Designer.
  • Working knowledge of construction solutions and finishes for pharma and healthcare facilities.
  • Ability to create commercial designs and provide unique solutions
  • Qualification in Building Studies, ideally at least HNC.
  • Understanding of Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, and Public Health Design
  • Proven experience using REVIT, Revizto, IES, M-Files, and Microsoft Office, including Projects.
  • Experience in designing and coordinating turnkey projects, including Construction, HVAC, Mechanical and electrical works in pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, Laboratories and cleanrooms.
  • Familiarity with ISO19650 related to the UK BIM Framework, ISO9001:2015 quality systems and procedures and CDM regulations.
  • Customer-focused with strong communication skills for liaising with senior client personnel.
  • Passion for personal, professional, and organizational development.
