This is a temporary long-term supply role for a qualified teacher from February 2025, supporting the deputy headteacher and SENDCO on a part time or full-time basis.
Secondary SEMH teacher and Curriculum Lead
Location: Ashton-under-Lyne, TamesidePosition: Secondary Special Needs Teacher and Curriculum LeadSchool Type: Small provision for secondary age pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) for 30 students aged 11 to 16. Contract: Part-Time or Full-Time (2 days as Curriculum Lead, 3 days teaching)
Tradewind are seeking a qualified and experienced Secondary or Special Needs Teacher to join our small SEMH school in the heart of Ashton-under-Lyne. Our school serves students aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced educator to step into a leadership role as Curriculum Lead while also teaching.
As Curriculum Lead (2 days per week):
- Lead the design and implementation of an inclusive and engaging curriculum tailored to meet the academic and emotional needs of our students.
- Develop and oversee the delivery of core subjects (English, Maths, and Science) for students, many of whom are working towards GCSEs or Functional Skills qualifications.
- Provide guidance and support to staff on curriculum planning, resourcing, and delivery, ensuring consistency and high standards across subjects.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum, making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
- Foster an environment where students can develop the skills they need for life beyond school, while maintaining a focus on their social, emotional, and academic development.
As Classroom Teacher (3 days per week):
- Teach a range of subjects, ensuring lessons are tailored to the individual learning needs of students with SEMH and Autism.
- Create and maintain a supportive, inclusive classroom environment, encouraging positive behaviour and student engagement.
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure each student's academic, social, and emotional needs are met.
- Assess and track student progress toward GCSEs or Functional Skills qualifications and provide regular feedback to students and parents.
- The students are taught via primary model, with the same teacher all day, teaching the full secondary curriculum.
Key Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience as a Curriculum Lead or a Head of Department in core subjects (English, Maths, or Science) in a secondary school or SEND provision for secondary-aged students.
- Experience working with students with SEMH and Autism.
- Strong knowledge of GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications, with a proven ability to prepare students for these exams.
- Leadership experience in curriculum development and staff support.
- A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to teaching and behaviour management.
- Ability to create individualised learning plans that cater to students' diverse needs.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and external partners.
