As we expand our presence in the data centre market, we seek a skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor with specific experience in data centre construction. This role is essential in ensuring the cost-effective and timely delivery of our projects in Buntingford and surrounding areas.

Job Purpose

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide financial oversight and cost management for data centre projects, from inception through to completion. You will be responsible for accurate cost control, budget management, and contractual support, ensuring that financial targets are met and that projects are delivered in compliance with industry and client standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Centre Expertise: Apply specialised knowledge of data centre construction, including cooling, electrical, security, and fire suppression systems, to support precise cost estimation and control.
  • Cost Management: Lead cost planning, budgeting, and value engineering exercises specifically for data centre projects, ensuring forecasts and cash flows meet high industry standards.
  • Project Financial Control: Oversee costs and financial reporting for data centre projects, preparing detailed cost analysis and financial statements at regular intervals.
  • Procurement & Contracts: Implement effective procurement strategies tailored to data centre projects, manage supplier relationships, and negotiate sub-contracts to ensure best value.
  • Change Management: Evaluate and cost project changes, ensuring that all variations in data centre projects are accurately assessed and managed.
  • Valuations & Payments: Prepare interim valuations, manage applications for payment, and oversee subcontractor payment processes specific to data centre requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify risks associated with data centre construction, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor financial impacts, ensuring that sensitive project areas are safeguarded.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with data centre construction standards and regulations, including Uptime Institute requirements, preparing relevant documentation for stakeholders and senior management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Data Centre Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years in quantity surveying with at least 2 years of specific experience in data centre construction projects.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam) and MS Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with data centre-specific software and standards is a plus.
  • Sector Knowledge: In-depth understanding of data centre construction methods, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems, regulations, and best practices in the UK.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong financial and data analysis skills with a proactive approach to identifying cost efficiencies specific to data centre projects.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communicator able to present financial information to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including client representatives and regulatory bodies.
