Job Specification: Field Engineer – Water Mist Fire Suppression Systems

Clearance: Role subject to Enhanced Level 1 Security Clearance

Reports to: Service Manager

Salary: up to £40,000, with benefits

Role Summary

The Field Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing water mist fire suppression systems while upholding the company’s standards of professionalism, quality, and safety. The role requires technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

RequirementsKey Responsibilities
  1. Technical Maintenance & Repairs:

    • Conduct thorough maintenance and repair work on water mist fire suppression systems.
    • Follow service instructions, safety guidelines, and manufacturer specifications.
    • Identify and label any removed system items for further investigation.
  2. Planning & Preparation:

    • Ensure necessary equipment, tools, and service kits are loaded onto the works van.
    • Coordinate with the office for any additional supplies or parts required.
  3. Customer Interaction:

    • Maintain a professional relationship with customers and their staff.
    • Represent Fireworks with a high standard of conduct and customer service.
  4. Reporting & Documentation:

    • Accurately complete all required paperwork (physical or digital) for each job.
    • Submit completed documents to the office in a timely manner.
  5. Call-Out Duties:

    • Respond promptly to call-outs during designated periods.
    • Keep call-out dates free of other commitments and report conflicts to the office.
  6. Service Vehicle Maintenance:

    • Perform daily and weekly checks on the allocated service vehicle.
    • Submit completed vehicle check sheets and notify the office of any driving issues.
  7. Equipment Management:

    • Maintain work equipment, including ladders, PAT testing, calibrations, and pre-use checks.
  8. Purchasing:

    • Ensure all credit card purchases are work-related and maintain appropriate records.
  9. Training & Development:

    • Complete assigned training courses within the allocated timeframes.
    • Maintain valid CSCS or similar competency cards.
  10. Workshop/Stores/Yard:

    • Follow workshop and PPE protocols while operating equipment.
    • Keep work areas clean and notify the stores of used stock.
  11. Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE):

    • Adhere to all QHSE policies and report incidents or concerns promptly.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Strong knowledge of water mist fire suppression systems and the fire prevention sector.
    • Previous experience in field engineer roles or equivalent technical qualifications.
  • Electrical Engineering:

    • Level 3 qualification in electrical engineering (minimum).
    • 18th Edition qualification is highly desirable.
  • Competence:

    • Ability to pass manufacturer courses on relevant equipment.
    • Demonstrates technical awareness and problem-solving skills.
  • Other Requirements:

    • Valid UK driving licence.
    • Ability to work in custodial establishments (Enhanced Level 1 Security Clearance required).
