Project Engineering Manager – Staff or Possibly Outside IR35 – Nuclear – Salary + Benefit or Hourly Rate – Hybrid Working - 4 Day Working Week - Lancashire

Our leading client operates within the nuclear sector, and they are seeking a Project Engineering Manager on a staff or contract (outside IR35) basis. You’ll be responsible for successful delivery of the engineering content of assigned projects from bid through to project execution and close out, ensuring effective delivery and realisation of best achievable profit and schedule completion.

You will be working within a design office, there is also a manufacturing facility on site. You will also have the opportunity to work on prestigious projects for a leading nuclear based company. Material or mechanical handling project experience would be preferred. 

Actively lead and manage multidiscipline engineering teams, providing technical direction and guidance in the execution of engineering delivery strategies, undertaking assurance activities to ensure a compliant and safe design and achievement of quality standards. Support the operations of the engineering portfolio and identify continuous improvement opportunities through the robust challenge of processes and procedures to achieve Excellence in Engineering.

Duties:

  • Act as technical lead in the production of bid proposals and tender responses, establishing engineering delivery strategies and scopes of work.
  • Ensure Client requirements are fully understood, and assumptions, exclusions and risks are clearly identified in bid proposals to provide a clear baseline for executing the engineering scope.
  • Ensure costs and schedules include suitable assurance and design verification and validation activities to demonstrate compliance with processes and procedures, engineering requirements and applicable legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Actively lead and manage multidiscipline engineering teams in the delivery of assigned projects, ensuring engineering delivery strategies are executed and assurance of engineering activities.
  • Ensure a clear baseline (scope, cost and schedule) is established for the engineering content of assigned projects, supporting the Project Manager in the identification, assessment and control of contract change.
  • Support the Project Manager in the preparation, monitoring and control of project schedules, identifying engineering activities, budgets and resources to implement engineering delivery strategies.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance in the execution of engineering activities.
  • Ensure appropriate engineering documentation, drawings and calculations are produced relevant to the design phase(s) being executed and their content sufficient to define and substantiate engineering design solutions.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Ideally a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or an engineering discipline relevant to the role.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of the Machinery Directive, LOLER, PUWER, CDM and other applicable legislation, regulations and standards, and their associated application in the engineering design process.
  • Industry experience in either nuclear, materials handling or similar environment would be preferred.
  • Review and approve engineering design solutions and deliverables, ensuring suitability for intended use and adequate evidence to demonstrate compliance with processes and procedures, engineering requirements and applicable legislation, regulations and standards.
