Design Engineer - SolidWorks Permanent Full-TimeSalary - Circa £40,000 DOE Location - In office, BuckinghamshireWe're excited to be supporting a leading specialist designer and manufacturer of high-quality bespoke and non-bespoke attachments for heavy plant machinery, serving both the construction industry and the military for over two decades. Focused on innovation and precision engineering, they provide durable and efficient products designed to last.They are seeking a Design Engineer who will create 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, collaborate with sales and aftersales teams, and design attachments for Excavators and Wheeled Loaders. The role involves communicating with suppliers, ensuring design accuracy for manufacturing, applying welding and hydraulic knowledge, and optimizing designs using FEA to ensure durability and performance in the field.Responsibilities, but are not limited to

  • Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, ensuring designs are manufacturable and fit for purpose
  • Collaborate closely with sales and aftersales teams to create designs that align with customer requirements and sales briefs
  • Liaise with suppliers and sub-contractors to address technical queries, implement design revisions, and manage engineering changes as necessary
  • Design attachments for Excavators and Wheeled Loaders, considering quality, cost, and lead time to meet sales specifications
  • Work with the manufacturing team to ensure accurate interpretation of designs, providing support with any design-related issues during production
  • Produce clear and accurate engineering drawings for sub-contract manufacture, ensuring smooth production and assembly
  • Apply knowledge of weld symbols and welding techniques to ensure the structural integrity of designs
  • Utilise hydraulic circuit knowledge in designing attachments and related systems
  • Leverage FEA knowledge to optimise designs for structural integrity and operational performance

Experiences required

  • Proven experience in SolidWorks or similar (Solid Edge, Inventor, Fusion 360, Onshape, CATIA, or Creo)
  • Experience in designing attachments for heavy plant machinery or similar
  • Proven experience in producing detailed engineering drawings for sub-contract manufacture
  • Knowledge of FEA and the ability to utilise it effectively is desirable
