The Role:We are looking for a skilled and motivated Centre Lathe Turner to operate our XYZ Proturn semi-CNC lathe. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality aerospace and advanced engineering components while driving continuous improvement initiatives. Reporting to the Section Production Supervisor, you will play a vital role in delivering precision-engineered parts to meet our customers' exacting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup & Operation: Set up and operate centre lathes according to engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Tool Selection: Choose the appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for each machining task.

  • Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and tool changes to ensure smooth operations.

  • Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision instruments (micrometres, callipers, etc.) and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy.

  • Troubleshooting: Monitor machine operations and resolve issues during the machining process.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the production team to meet deadlines and improve processes.

  • Safety & Organisation: Maintain a safe, organised workspace and adhere to all safety guidelines.

  • Documentation: Accurately document machining processes and maintain records of work completed.

What You Bring:

  • Experience as a Centre Lathe Operator in a manufacturing or machining environment.

  • Strong proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and ability to interpret engineering drawings.

  • Deep knowledge of metalworking principles, cutting tools, and machining techniques.

  • Skilled in precise measurements using instruments such as micrometres and gauges.

  • Good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

  • Strong teamwork skills and mechanical aptitude.

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs in Mathematics (or equivalent).

  • Vocational qualifications or certifications in machining are advantageous.

Working Conditions:

  • Shop floor environment with regular interaction with machinery and equipment.

  • Occasional lifting of heavy objects.
