Astute's power team are looking for an EC&I Technician / EC&I Craftsperson to a large Energy from Waste plant located in Kent, South East England. This plant can produce up to 45MW of Power by processing up to 550,000 tonnes of waste per year, usually destined for landfill.

As an EC&I Technician you'll be responsible for all reactive & preventative maintenance across a variety of critical equipment including DCS/SCADA Systems, PLC's, drives, motors, switchgear etc.

This is a permanent position which is offering a competitive starting salary of up to 55,000 depending on experience, plus bonus, overtime, call out payments & benefits package.


Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the EC&I Maintenance Team Leader, as an EC&I Technician you will be responsible for:
  • Pre-planned and reactive maintenance duties on all electrical, controls and instrumentation assets across the power station
  • Fault finding/maintaining electrical systems; motors, drives, single phase & three phase equipment, switchgear, high/low voltage plant etc and instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level & flow) and control systems
  • Calibrating instrumentation
  • Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work
  • Supervising 3rd party contractors
  • Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
  • Assisting in plant developments and projects
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS
  • Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination.
  • To ensure the availability of plant spares



Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
  • Ideally qualified in a recognised Electrical / C&I apprenticeship in a heavy process industry
  • A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline
  • At least 4 years of hands-on maintenance experience with motors, switchgear, instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperate etc) and control systems (SCADA, DCS and PLC)
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc. Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered.
  • Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience with High-Voltage equipment such as transformers / switchgear will be advantageous.
