Role:

Ensure that all waste within the Polypipe Building Services Aylesford site is collected, sorted & disposed of in the correct and timely manner, while ensuring that all reusable handling equipment returns to the storage yard & the company waste footprint is reduced . You will be Responsible for maintaining the general cleanliness of the site, focussing on the correct sorting & storing of waste products for collection. You will be tasked with loading waste collections using a FLT & to assist with any other transhipping or re-loading due to stability concerns. You will be responsible for the H&S of all staff & visitors, minimising risk through very high standards of housekeeping and the monitoring and control of all activities in the area and Provide support to management team and assist in the running of day-to-day activities and all duties as requested.

Working hours:This is a Monday - Friday role.

08:00am - 16:00pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively collecting waste throughout the day and sorting into the relevant waste areas.
  • Ensure all reusable handling equipment is returned into storage yard for re-use
  • Ensure all recyclable material bins are uncontaminated
  • Recording daily waste collections
  • Sorting and baling waste cardboard and plastic film along with recovery of customer packaging waste and products returned for recycling to maximise revenue from the waste streams.
  • Demonstrate safe working practices at all times to ensure the company Health & Safety Policy and procedures are adhered to.
  • Carry out daily waste audits & identify areas of inappropriate activity (contaminated waste) & raise them with supervisor for corrective action
  • Ensure entire yard area is clear of any waste, and maintain a tidy and safe environment to work in.
  • Carrying out any and all duties as requested by management provided suitable training has been received.
  • Use MHE in the course of daily activities safely and in accordance with company guidelines including carrying out pre-use inspections & reporting defects
  • Wear Uniform and PPE at all times while at work, report to supervisor any defects in PPE & request replacements
  • Responsible for Banksman duties for all drivers
  • Report all hazards, near misses and accidents in accordance with company policies.
  • Assisting with load securing methods & preparation of vehicles for loading/unloading.
  • Responsible for all general yard duties.
  • Liaise with other relevant departments to ensure all appropriate waste is collected.
  • Responsible for challenging unauthorised persons in yard area.
  • Follow all company policies at all times

Requirements:

  • Manual handling
  • Fork truck licences; Electric Counter Balance and Gas & Diesel Counter Balance Trucks, and Combi Truck
  • Basic knowledge of waste handling
  • Understanding of recyclable products
  • Understanding of Operator licencing & the importance of safe, secure loading.
  • Ability to be very flexible in your approach to working
  • Understanding of specific waste transfer requirements
  • Banksman awareness
  • Focussed attention to detail, accurate & numerate
