Role Summary:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment projects. Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, the engineer will ensure mechanical components are seamlessly integrated into project designs, adhere to regulatory standards, and meet the highest levels of efficiency and reliability. This role supports the entire design lifecycle, from concept through detailed design and final commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design mechanical systems and equipment for water and wastewater treatment plants, including pumps, pipelines, valves, and filtration systems.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs, including 3D models, schedules, calculations, equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry regulations, technical standards, and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with civil, EICA, and process engineers to integrate mechanical systems with other project components.
  • Produce and review design documentation, including reports, specifications, calculations, and equipment schedules.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, installation, and commissioning phases, ensuring systems meet design intent.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and select equipment suitable for project requirements and compliance.
  • Conduct technical reviews of designs to ensure accuracy, functionality, and adherence to project timelines.
  • Participate in design risk assessments, addressing challenges and optimizing performance and safety.
  • Incorporate energy efficiency, safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness into all designs.
  • Stay updated on advancements, technologies, and best practices in mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Essential:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
    • 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally in the water or wastewater industry.
    • Proficiency in designing mechanical systems for water treatment plants, including pumps, piping systems, and valves.
    • Knowledge of mechanical standards, regulations, and codes.
    • Familiarity with 3D modelling and CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks.
    • Understanding of mechanical equipment procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  • Desirable:

    • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
    • Professional certification or progress toward Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
    • Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and sustainable mechanical design practices.
