We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Maintenance Operative to join our team, supporting the maintenance and upkeep of our nursing care home, Eltisley Manor. This role is vital in ensuring that the buildings, equipment, and surrounding environments are safe, clean, and in good working order. You will play a key role in providing a safe and comfortable environment for our patients, residents, and staff.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a maintenance role, preferably within a healthcare, hospital, or care home setting.
  • Strong knowledge of general building maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and regulations.
  • Flexibility to work on a variety of tasks and respond to emergencies when necessary.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact with patients, staff, and contractors in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
  • A valid driving license

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment or with medical equipment.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a relevant field (e.g., Building Services, Maintenance, Electrical, or Plumbing).
  • First Aid Certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance tasks, including, painting, and carpentry work to ensure facilities are in optimal condition.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of medical equipment and ensure that any issues are promptly reported and addressed.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from staff and residents, prioritising urgent issues and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations with care home policies at all times.
  • Support the installation, maintenance, and repair of furniture, fixtures, and fittings.
  • Assist with fire safety and emergency evacuation procedures, ensuring all fire exits are clear and operational.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance tasks completed, repairs conducted, and parts used.
  • Perform any other ad-hoc duties as required by the Head of Maintenance.

Eltisley Manor is our 37-bed registered psychiatric nursing care home located near to St-Neots town centre (Cambridgeshire). The building is divided into different specialist areas caring for men and women aged 18+ suffering from enduring mental health issues and for those people nearing the end of their rehabilitation towards independent living.
