Quantity Surveyor

  • Job Type: Part-time (Consultancy – approximately 2 days per week, 18 months)

We are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a consultancy basis, reporting directly to the Operations Director. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities from the preparation of valuations and final accounts to the management of health and safety protocols, making it ideal for someone with strong commercial acumen and excellent organisational skills.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Prepare monthly valuations or as required and settle final accounts expediently after works are complete.
  • Measure, quantify, and value variations, ensuring all details of additional works are compiled and communicated.
  • Issue subcontract package enquiries, evaluate proposals, and issue orders ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with contractual terms.
  • Certify payments for subcontract packages and labour-only subcontractors, maintaining accurate payment records.
  • Value and issue contra-charges where appropriate.
  • Complete monthly contract reports including necessary accruals.
  • Maintain cost databases and establish contract budgets from tender estimates.
  • Manage the preparation of formal contract documentation and establish filing systems for commercial aspects of contracts.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documents and quantities for estimates and prepare ad-hoc estimates as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and the company’s Fair Employment policies.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3rd Level Qualification in Building/Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying related subject or equivalent.
  • Membership of a construction-related professional body (e.g., RICS/CIOB) is desirable.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveyor role within the Construction Industry, with experience of administering NEC3 form of contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of general building works and NEC suite of Contracts, especially Option A, and Short Form.
  • Excellent commercial acumen, ability to work under pressure, and to tight deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to share information effectively at all levels.
  • A full current driving licence is essential.
