SALARY: £25,183 - £27,269 per annum (NJC Points 6-11) includes the proposed NJC 2024-25 pay award

JOB OVERVIEW

Following the recent retirement of our School Caretaker / Site Maintenance Operative we are currently seeking to employ another highly motivated and professional School Caretaker / Site Maintenance Operative to join our Site Maintenance Team.

As the School Caretaker / Site Maintenance Operative you will ideally have a proven track record in site caretaking within the education sector. As part of the Site Maintenance Team you will have a general responsibility to ensure the appearance and security of the school site is maintained to a high standard at all times. Duties include being a key holder, opening up and closing the school, conducting basic grounds maintenance (sweeping, recycling maintenance, salting etc), portering and providing additional cleaning capacity to the Site and Housekeeping teams to a safe working environment and supporting other Site Maintenance colleagues with "handy" jobs throughout the school.

Working as the School Caretaker / Site Maintenance Operative you will be part of the Site Maintenance team you will have a general responsibility to ensure the appearance and security of the school site is maintained to a high standard at all times.

  • Maintain a safe and well maintained school site and grounds

DUTIES

Your duties as a School Caretaker / Site Maintenance Operative will include:

  • Be a keyholder and attend to the opening and closing of the school daily (this can include weekends and evenings as the school has boarding provision) at the agreed times, as required. The preferred shift pattern is intended to be 1000 - 1800 hrs, Monday to Friday
  • As part of the Site team, be responsible for general security at all times, making sure all windows are closed securely, and doors are shut and locked securely in all school buildings and outbuildings
  • You may be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security problems, make emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor who may be working on the site, in school holidays or weekends
  • Ensure that all reasonable steps have been taken to prevent people trespassing in the grounds
  • Assist with the delivering planned preventative and reactive maintenance as directed by the Site Manager
  • Chaperone contractors on site, as required
  • Undertake grounds maintenance appropriate to the seasons/time of year
  • Receive and check goods and supplies and take them to the appropriate place for storage
  • Support the Housekeeping Team
  • Ensure that all refuse is disposed of promptly and stored away from the main building
  • Ensure that a clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Have experience in a similar role (desirable)
  • Be honest, reliable, flexible in approach to duties and hours of work
  • Have a demonstrable knowledge of Health & Safety including COSHH
  • Be able to undertake appropriately risk assessed manual tasks with the support of appropriate equipment
  • Access to a car for work purposes
