Our client is a long-established, independent supplier of building materials. The business supplies customers within a 30-mile radius of Banbury and has a steady base of repeat and new customers.The company is now looking to hire an experienced Depot Manager on a permanent basis, to oversee the smooth running of the business operations – specifically the production and delivery of its products, in a timely manner to it’s customers. Due to the size of the company, this role will require the job holder to be flexible on their duties, as there may be many times where they will need to take ownership for several business operations. We are therefore looking for an experienced manager, ideally from the building trade (or similar), who has worked in a busy and dynamic working environment.Key responsibilities:
  • Assume responsibility for day-to-day business operations, including all ‘yard’ work – production, weighing and packaging of product.
  • Ensuring that all customers receive an excellent overall service, with timely and accurate delivery of product orders.
  • Oversee delivery schedule to customer sites, ensuring that lorries are packed to capacity and that route scheduling is produced ahead of the day.
  • Ensuring that all vehicles are loaded to capacity and that routes are planned to ensure cost and time efficiency.
  • Updating route planner and issuing schedules to drivers ahead of time to minimise downtime.
  • Ensuring that the scheduling software is updated accordingly.
  • Line management of a small team of yard workers and delivery drivers, assuming all HR responsibilities including performance management, appraisals, recruitment etc.
  • Ensuring that the company adheres to all Health and Safety legislation as applicable.
  • Ensuring that staff receive adequate training as required (manual handling, driving licenses etc).
  • Any other general administrative and support duties as required to fulfil the position.
Experience & Skills required:
  • Previous experience in a Transport/Depot Management role, with working knowledge of vehicle route-planning systems.
  • Experienced line manager, preferably in a logistics or building trade environment.
  • Working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation.
  • CPC qualification would be preferred but not essential.
  • IT literate (MS Office)
  • Professional manner of communication and working standards. Able to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Able to create a positive and professional working environment.
  • Good overall commercial awareness and desire to make improvements to processes and procedures to the benefit of the company.
  • Clean UK driving license and own transport.
