Assistant Purchasing Manager

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week. Salary negotiable depending on experience, plus bonus payable after qualification period.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Purchasing Manager in guiding the team to meet company and project goals.
  • Key role in Project Management and hosting regular NPI review meetings.
  • Select suppliers to meet business and project needs.
  • Strive to achieve or exceed cost improvement goals sustainably.
  • Manage supplier relationships.
  • Set and communicate supplier performance targets.
  • Establish production supply agreements with optimal commercial terms.
  • Develop strategies to improve the Purchasing Team’s effectiveness.
  • Mentor team members and assist in strategy creation.
  • Maintain commodity strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Support engineering change management for supplied components and materials.
  • Participate in continuous improvement processes for supplier quality, cost, innovation, delivery, and management.
  • Address quality issues with suppliers, supporting the quality engineer as needed.
  • Maintain the Purchasing database, including expenditures, budgets, and supplier information.
  • Coordinate stakeholder activities to achieve business improvement objectives.
  • Manage and develop SAP functions related to suppliers and commodities.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Manufacturing sector experience
  • Previous experience in automotive preferred – OEM / Tier 1
  • CIPS membership or relevant business qualification desirable
  • Proficient in cost improvement techniques.
  • Positive contributor to new product launches.
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
