Hours: Full time. Monday - Friday, days regularHere at The Recruitment Co, we are currently recruiting a Health & Safety Officer to work for a company in Blackwood on a permanent contract.The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the organization has sufficient arrangements in place to ensure the effective identification, minimization or removal of risks that might cause accidents or injuries in the workplace. They maintain the safety information of the organization and promote safety compliance by shaping new protocols and strengthening existing health and safety policies.Main job roles:

  • Monitoring legislation pertaining to Health and Safety and ensuring that NORDAM Europe has systems in place that afford adequate protection to employees and the Company
  • Maintaining company policies, procedures and management systems to ensure that appropriate arrangements exist and are maintained to ensure the effective provision of a safe workplace
  • Conducting accident and near-miss investigations to ensure that root causes are identified and appropriate controls implemented to prevent reoccurrence & risk assessments
  • Providing support with training and education requirements through the delivery or coordination of Health and Safety related training in accordance with organizational needs
  • Ensuring appropriate emergency response arrangements exist within the facility and that staff are aware of and are able to comply with these
  • Conducting safety inspections and audits to ensure safety standards are maintained throughout all business activities
  • Compile statistics and performance metrics related to Health and Safety making recommendations to Management based on safety performance measures
  • Coordinating issues relating to environmental protection and maintaining a system of controls that satisfies and exceeds current legislation.

Required Experience

  • Professional qualification in Health & Safety/Environmental Management would be advantageous
  • Ideally, post graduate qualification in a related topic
  • At least three to five years' experience in a similar role
  • Computer literate, with particular emphasis on office system management and process tools
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • A flexible approach to all tasks with an ability and potential for lateral development
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Must be able to work in a changing environment while maintaining a positive attitude to work ethic
  • Must have an innovative approach to problems creating positive and remedial solutions in an efficient manner
  • A willingness to help and assist others in a team environment
