GSL Education London are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Occupational Therapist to join a welcoming school in Barnet on a maternity cover basis (3 days a week) that will commence in January 2025.


About the role:

As an Occupational Therapist in a SEMH Secondary School, you will support students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs by developing tailored interventions to improve their ability to engage in school life. You will work closely with teachers and staff to address sensory, motor, and emotional challenges, helping students build skills for academic success and personal development.

This specialist SEMH school offers tailored support for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. It provides a structured, caring environment with individual teaching to help students grow both academically and emotionally. Through small group work, one-on-one support, and external exams, the school helps students reach their full potential.


Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Provide occupational therapy support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents to create tailored interventions that enhance student well-being and learning.
  • Conduct assessments and develop individualised plans to address sensory, motor, and emotional challenges.
  • Help students build the skills needed to succeed academically and socially in a supportive school environment.

Requirements of the Occupational Therapist:

  • Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Strong communication and team-working abilities.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is advantageous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of key partners.
  • Able to work sensitively with people and resolve conflict effectively.
  • A passion for education and supporting students' learning progress.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
