Barnsley Council is seeking an Illicit Tobacco Control Officer to join the team based in Barnsley. You will join us on a full time, fixed term contract for 2 years and in return, you will receive a salary of £33,024 - £35,745 per annum.

We are excited to be recruiting to the role of Illicit Tobacco Control Officer in our busy Trading Standards Team, here in Barnsley the place of possibilities.

The successful candidate will play an important role in protecting the public, by providing advice to businesses and taking enforcement action in relation to illegal tobacco, illegal vaping products and underage sales.

Your work will help provide essential support and guidance to local businesses as they get to grips with new tobacco and vapes legislation.  This new legislation will allow us to keep our children safer with the permanent restrictions on some young people accessing tobacco products, and more generally restricting the sale of vaping products unless they are clearly intended as a smoking cessation aid.

To join us, you’ll need an accredited Level 4 qualification relevant to the work of the team. Previous experience in relation to criminal investigations and enforcement work is essential to the role. You’ll have a thorough understanding of the relevant legislation and bring a commitment to work flexibly, and an appetite for engaging in continuous training and professional development in this rewarding field of work.

Barnsley council is a double award winning high performing council with a growing economy, thriving town centre and truly impressive outcomes in our communities. This is why we’ve been awarded Council of the Year 2023, by the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) and the Municipal Journal (MJ).
