About the Role:

We’re looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and dedicated team at a specialist school in Barnsley. The role involves working with children who have SEMH needs, helping them navigate challenges, build resilience, and make progress in their learning. If you’re caring, patient, and enjoy working with children who need that extra bit of support, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting children with SEMH needs on a one-to-one or small group basis
  • Assisting teachers with planning and delivering lessons that meet the needs of the students
  • Helping to manage challenging behavior in a positive and constructive way
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students to boost their confidence and engagement
  • Working closely with the SEND team, teachers, and external specialists to make sure students get the best possible support

What We’re Looking For:

  • Some experience working with children, ideally in a SEND setting or with SEMH needs
  • A calm and understanding approach, with great communication skills
  • Someone who’s adaptable, able to work well as part of a team, and can stay positive in challenging situations
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to get one)

Bonus Points For:

  • Any relevant qualifications (but don’t worry if you don’t have them – your experience and attitude are what matters most!)
  • Experience in a school setting or knowledge of working with children with additional needs
