SEND Teaching Assistants needed in Barnsley

A specialist education school in Barnsley is looking for supply Teaching Assistants to join their school covering short and long-term absences. The students at this school are between the ages of 11-19  and have communication and interaction difficulties.

Responsibilities of the role:

• Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
• Attend to pupils’ personal needs including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, and welfare matters
• Support pupils to access the curriculum including reading and ICT
• Support the teacher in establishing an appropriate learning environment including preparing for lessons, clearing away and assisting with the display of pupils’ work
• Be aware of and support differences and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

The ideal Full-time SEND Teaching Assistant should have the following:

• Strong behaviour management skills
• Minimum of 6 months experience working with SEND
• Passionate and enthusiastic about their work
• Good communication skills
• A good understanding of child protection and safeguarding guidelines
• Experience in working with supporting students in their education on a 1:1 and a small group basis
• We also accept people with Care and Support Work experience
