Design Technical Estimator

Location: Barnsley

Salary: 35-45k

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Industrial Design Technical Estimator to join our clients team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, estimating project costs, and preparing accurate quotations. The role requires a solid understanding of technical specifications, excellent proficiency in appropriate drawing packages, Microsoft Excel, Word, and the Microsoft Office suite, and the ability to provide precise and timely estimates for a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review Technical Drawings & Specifications: Analyse and interpret detailed technical drawings and specifications to accurately estimate the materials, labour, and time required for projects.
  • Prepare internal drawings for sign-off by the customer
  • Prepare Detailed Estimates: Calculate project costs, including material quantities, labour rates, and other resources. Develop comprehensive and accurate cost breakdowns and quotations.
  • Use of Estimating Software, where appropriate: Employ industry-specific software to input data, run cost analysis, and generate reports. Ensure that estimates are consistent with company standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Utilise Excel to create detailed spreadsheets for cost analysis and budgeting. Use Word to prepare clear, professional reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and procurement teams to gather necessary project data and align estimates with project goals and requirements.
  • Review Changes & Revisions: Update estimates based on design changes or revised specifications, ensuring accuracy and timely adjustments.
  • Cost Analysis: Monitor and evaluate project costs to identify potential cost-saving opportunities or risk factors, making recommendations as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Technical Estimator or in a similar estimating role or a recent graduate would be preferable.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs. Experience with industry-specific estimating software is a plus.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with complex technical information and large sets of data.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify potential issues in project plans and offer solutions to ensure accurate and cost-effective estimates.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Education: Degree or certification in a relevant technical or engineering field
